The HealthConnect: Promoting Wellness through Comprehensive Mental Health Education and Service grant is helping expand mental health training for nursing students at Indiana University South Bend.
Funded by the Valinhos Foundation, the three-year initiative will certify all 150 nursing students in mental health first aid and suicide prevention. Students, graduate assistants, and faculty will be trained to recognize early signs of mental distress and respond with de-escalation strategies — both on campus and in future healthcare settings.
